The Procedure

With beard transplantation, most patients opt for the FUE technique to avoid a linear scar. The FUE technique has largely replaced the traditional “strip” donor extractions for transplantation. Regardless of the donor technique used, patients are made aware of the potential limitations of the donor hair quantity and, therefore, the “size” and density of the beard, which can be achieved through solely one procedure.

The Recovery

Patients are told to keep their faces dry for the first five days after the procedure. Whether a strip or FUE technique was used, a topical antibiotic ointment is applied to the donor area. After five days, patients are instructed to wet their faces with soap and water and start removing the dried blood and crusts. Shaving is permitted after ten days. Hair regrowth usually starts around four to six months after the procedure. The transplanted hair can be treated like any other facial hair and allowed to grow out or shaved.
